Spring break…….

Boys are spending their spring break in Tulum Mexico.  Near Cancun.    We took our kids there many, many years ago….thee was nothing there except ruins and thatched huts that sold trinkets and Coke.    Jon was about 7 I think so that makes it about 35 years ago.    The beaches at Tulum are stunning as is the park at Xel Ha.     The boys snorkeled with large fish, like barracudas and sting rays….I was reluctant about the whole thing and kept vigilance on the rocks above .   I'm assuming it's all built up now with hotels and such.      Yesterday Andy and Mason went to the Park.

Maybe we'll have to go back again……This time they can pay their own way.!!

The house moves along and I am getting stressed about all the decisions that will be required…..Like furniture and dishes and everything …..

As we were driving back from SC, somewhere in the state, I saw a billboard ….. I didn't get a picture but it roughly said………" Sign in online for the ER (at some hospital) and do your waiting at home."   Now, I always thought the emergency room was for EMERGENCIES…..seems to me if you were having a stroke or heart attack, you really should not wait at home.

Enjoying The Masters and convinced if I watch every minute it will improve my golf game….by osmosis.

Catching up……...

It's good to be home………….or didn't I tell you we were gone?     It wasn't a very exciting trip but the moving house needed it's annual checkup and P prefers to go to the source.    So, we drove 500+ miles up and back (divided into 2 reasonable days each way) and visited the Freightliner factory in Gaffney SC.   Everything went well and despite the torrential rains the entire time there, we had a good outing.    Spring is popping out up there and everything was in bloom, including the climbing wisteria which was common along highways.   It seems very invasive as it's vines climb the trees.    We saw one tree that was completely covered.    It has such beautiful flower.    Other trees were blooming and I was especially nostalgic for the dogwood that we had in Ct.   ( I really intended to take pics but didn't want to get wet. )

While we were there, the builder sent us some photos of the progress.    This is the master bath

and obviously this is the kitchen with cabinetry being put in.  It will look much better with the doors and drawers, granite and flooring.    Tile was to start on Monday.   It's getting exciting.   Except, I now have to quit procrastinating and start ordering the lighting fixtures.   If I was out there, I think it would be easier.    I'm saving the mini pendants for later as well as the dining light.   But I've almost decided on bathrooms and ceiling fans (4).

I'm a gadget person….I admit it.       I have had a FitBit One for awhile.    It clips very securely onto clothes and counts  all of your steps.   I sync it with Loseit.com and it gives me all sorts of non-vital info.    If you spend more money, you can sync it to Runkeeper and also a BP monitor and also a glucose monitor, if you have those concerns.    It's kind of fun and keeps me motivated.   Altho, this week, between the serious rains and  days of driving, my stats were pretty ugly.
We came home to beautiful weather……only in the 70's with bright sun.   But in a day or two it will become more heated.    Guests will be arriving soon from the North so no one will complain about the heat.   Especially 2 boys who love to swim.

Have your event in TV……..

Speaking of which, if you decide to go into cardiac arrest anytime soon, might I suggest that you do it in The Villages.      The paper reported that we have a 46% survival rate…meaning you walk out of the hospital…..compared to the national average of 9%.     Reasons given are  (1) Response time by EMS of 4 minutes !!   compared to 9-11 elsewhere (if you're lucky)    (2)  More trained neighbors and recreation staff (3)  Use of   compression- only CPR (proven more effective than with mouth to mouth) and many AED's in neighborhoods and public buildings.     So, come for a visit and have your event here instead of on the streets of NYC !!

I really need to get my camera out and capture spring.   I sent in my favorite  lens for a tune-up and after $200 and a lengthy list of things corrected, I should have no excuses for lousy shots.    I felt that it was really dirty after the sand and dust of Utah last summer.   I suspect the camera could use a bath as well.
I need to carry it with me on the golf course.    The alligators are out, the large birds are strutting their stuff and everything is blooming.      Yesterday, we played Redfish Run Executive course.    I think its rated a 3 out of 4.   Only one par 4 but it is brutal with all sorts of ugly stuff to get in trouble in and there is water on most holes.   But, I managed to shoot a 3 over par !!!   On days like that, it seems that the ball just knows where to go and does its thing regardless of what I do.    Guess that's how the Pro's feel when it's their day.   Only I didn't win a million bucks.    Just a Mexican dinner.

We are supposed to be on an RV Rally in Tennessee this week.   We didn't pack up the wagon and go. We don't really know anyone in the group and altho the area should be beautiful in the mountains, we opted to stick around here.    But, we need to be in Gaffney SC for the annual Freightliner maintenance so that will get us out of the house this month.   It will be good to get out in the bus after these months staying put.    And then we load up for our trek westward in May.    No news on the house but assuming it is moving towards the finishing stages soon.

Never mind……...

………what I said the other day…..    Blogging is a bit like dieting.   You start out strong and full of intention but after while, it's not so interesting anymore and you'd rather just "stop looking at life as a possible blog post' / eat the entire pie"……     And sometimes, it seems like you should do something more important, especially when others around you are having really hard days….or the world seems heartless and the news never gets to the happy stuff.      But then, I realized that I actually missed talking to you and I didn't want to keep a private journal and altho the bad stuff in the world will keep happening, it's a pretty nice day at this house so time to get up off the couch and get back to writing again…..well, actually, I do do my writing on the couch.      So, if most of you have gone elsewhere, that's OK and I'll just talk to myself for a bit…..

While I was gone, not too much happened…..well, except for the attempted burglary down the street and my part in the adventure.    I was quietly contemplating nothing on the lanai one afternoon and I see a young man calmly walking across the golf course.   He wasn't dressed like a maintenance guy so I was pondering what he was doing there and wondering what I should do about it.    Then my neighbor comes banging on my door to say there was a burglar on the loose and I said " I just saw him !!"    I don't think I've ever seen a real life actual thief before.    So, the call to 911 goes in and in seconds it seemed , I had 3 squad cars in my front yard and also a bloodhound.    And then a helicopter flying low and slow over the area.    I gave a report, both verbal and written and in no time, all of our phones were ringing, texts and emails were received and we were thoroughly warned about the burglar.   The officers were very professional and nice and shortly, both of the "perps" were apprehended.   I've been waiting for my reward money ………
Some of you might have seen the NBC Nightly News episode on the fast growing sport of Pickleball.   I have worked my way thru PB 101 and 102 and with the help of my cute coach, I am actually playing…not well, but I am optimistic that I will look less awkward soon.

Our neighbors and good friends , The Scott's , are gardeners and their yard is always resplendent with colorful flowers…..even their Bird of Paradise blooms….!

The other day, we noticed that John, a serious and excellent golfer, seems to be trying to grow golf ball flowers…………..

And today, after heavy rains, we noticed that he had actually succeeded……….

It's Time…….

……to end our relationship.     I've become lazy and rather boring and after 498 posts, what more do I have to share………..?
I think that the Blogs written by active RVer's who travel about and give info on where to stay, where to go and what to do when you get there, are very helpful.    Cooking blogs have taught me a lot.   Art blogs are my favorite as are blogs of my friends.     But mine fits none of those categories and altho it was originally designed to keep the family informed of our travels, it has certainly lost that theme since we don't travel so much and if we do, we return to the same places we wrote about previously.  I've noticed that other blog writers are coming to similar conclusions and are either stopping or cutting back to a point where it's hard to follow them.    I'd prefer not to become boring and stagnant and feel that I might be teetering on the edge of that.     I'll continue to keep a private journal of our life because it is a great source when we need to remember where we were or what we did and when we did it.
So thanks for coming along all  these years and be good out there……and stay Younger Every Day !!

The most beautiful state……...

We pulled out our western/winter clothes, spent 4 hours on a flight and have been enjoying the past several days in Colorado.      We woke the first morning in Denver to a beautiful fluffy 6 inches of snow.    And as we headed into the mountains, the views were magnificent.    However, we didn't stop to take decent pictures so this one just gives you a hint, taken thru the windshield.

The house progress is much faster than we had anticipated and some decisions needed to be made before dry wall went in.     Montrose, altho it can get cold and snowy ( as we experienced on our Dec. trip) has been called the Banana Belt….I'd say more like the Squash belt as far as growing stuff in the winter !….   But it was near 60 and the golfers were out in force.

View of the Par 3 green from the back of the house.

Looking from the front of the house towards the back of the house and the views….to the right is the kitchen and fireplace on the left.    Master bedroom is the other large window on the right.   Ceilings in the great room are 12 feet.

Back of house with large overhang.

We've met a couple who  purchased a pre-owned house and have spent 4 months in a huge remodel.   It is beautiful.    They moved from a ranch where they were avid hunters and trophies abound.    They served ELK for dinner and I brought wine called Elk Cove pinot gris, which was also very good.    The elk, I wouldn't know since I'm not a big meat eater and opted to enjoy the wonderfully prepared fresh vegetables.    But P said it was excellent.           This is not a good pic of Buffy who watched over us as we savored his wildlife friend.           My father was an avid hunter and our freezer was filled with a variety of birds, ducks and deer.  It was vital to the family budget.    And to the best of my memory and effort, I didn't touch any of it…..altho I'm sure that the "beef" hamburger was not the 100% cow that my mother insisted it was.

Cleaning up my life……..

Well, my life is pretty clean but my drawers and closets need a good purging…….I'm not particularly sentimental so most of the time I can get rid of "stuff" that we all like to hoard keep.   But I hang on to art supplies and I love my books.    But now, it's time to face reality and know that I AM RUNNING OUT OF TIME…..I will never use all of this and probably won't even look at it ever again.     I still plan on living to be  (more) old and (more) feeble but I do like my pens and pencils and papers much more than the others……so the paints and books  must go.    I might have a source who will take some of it and if I don't, I'll offer it up to the various clubs or schools.

Now I only buy books that don't work on the Kindle so my habit is more under control.    I know that Barnes and Noble can't exist unless I contribute to it's bottom line…..but I love sitting there with a favorite magazines, a Starbucks and my best friend.    I rarely buy anything …. I hope they come up with a solution to stay in business.    Maybe they could branch out into shoes, or hats, or  pet supplies…….or….combine with Nordstroms !!

Because I know you are just waiting for the big announcement…..there is none.   I did not place in the Photo contest …..  I wasn't disappointed nor surprised once I saw those that won.    This year the photos were outstanding.   Usually, they are quite mediocre and ordinary.   But this time there was great creativity and technique and diversity.   I was impressed…… but I still like my frog.
The house is moving along faster than we had thought.    We need to drop by soon and make any changes before the dry wall goes in.    Electric and plumbing will be in shortly and we may need to change outlets.
The back has a large overhang over the great room to help with the western sun.   To the left is the Master bedroom, to the right is the guest room.    This view is looking from the golf course.
I am NOT looking forward to furnishing an entire house.    We did it once before, also in Colorado in the early 90's…..I took my time then but we are having a family gathering in July so I want it well equipped to handle our crowd.

We are back on the golf courses.    We are slowly improving after almost 9 months of inactivity.    I saw the good Dr once again re: the knee and find that I have some sort of patellar syndrome vs: the MCL issue.     Good news is I can do anything I want and won't hurt it.    I've been wearing a brace which feels good when I'm swinging but it sure doesn't do much for an even tan.   Meanwhile, Mr Pickleball has made himself quite popular by attaching the GoPro to the fencing and capturing his League play.   He's sending the videos to various players so they can critique their games.    They are loving it but also take notice of their physique and one guy thought he looked pregnant.

Don't believe everything you read…………..

Our daily paper got a bit overzealous today with this headline.
Yes, it's true that a gazillion old people have discovered this place and it is growing exponentially every day.  ( The article interviewed people who have moved here and why )  However, if that headline were really true I could be assured of :     being slim and trim, being blonde once again, never shooting bogey on the golf course, and getting "Younger Every Day".
But, I can't complain one bit and most days the sun is shining, the sunsets are pretty and life is very good indeed.     Not to get political but this paper also thought  Sarah Palin was the best thing ever and welcomed her several times to our community.    There was a time, in the earlier days, when they didn't publish obits because, obviously, no one ever died here.   Actually, I don't think they do and that's the reason for the crowds everywhere.

So enough about the biased paper……..life is running smoothly along despite a  grouchy knee and lousy golf game.

Here's the Jeff picture of the week.      I dressed him in Bronco orange even then !!

Pictures that speak to me……..

Its a house !!    Not a great picture but this is the back of the house.    Electrical and plumbing to begin soon.   I feel bad for the workers who are dealing with very cold and snowy conditions.    I'd give them hot chocolate if I was there.     We received an invite to  a "Welcome Newcomers" party at the end of the month.   Don't think we'll make it.

(Note the MOUNTAINS over the roof line ! )    "The mountains are calling and I must go"  (John Muir said it first but I know how he felt.)

We're in touch with neighbors and friends that we've met there and already feel part of the community.

Sometimes, well maybe most of the time, I am in denial about how #2 son spends his days .   I know that he is an accomplished police officer in Vancouver, Washington.   I know that it is not a large city with large violent gang populations.   I know that domestic issues are some of the  most dangerous situations that they face due to their unpredictability.    I know he would be bored helping old ladies cross the street……but……when his picture makes the LA Times, I take notice.

He was leaving the site of a murder -suicide at a workplace.    I'm not sure what he is thinking at this moment but I hope he can shake it off and think about his golf game.    I am very proud that he has chosen this profession, despite all of its difficulties and dealing with all of the negative aspects of our society.   But, when someone called me from a police recruitment dept and asked how I felt about him becoming a police officer, I said that I'd rather he sold shoes.         Fortunately, he goes home to his wonderful wife and Guiness and Kitty.      Be safe out there Jeff.

Thoughts……..

Sometimes a short term memory loss is a good thing………but the party was great and friends supportive.   And the fat lady sang in the first 12 seconds…………….

Help needed……..

Now and then, I get a message when I turn on the computer that says I have upgrades waiting.    I say OK and totally ignore it.    Based on previous experience, I know that upgrades just create chaos in "my- set-in-my-ways"  routine.   I like change, but not with my electronic devices.   The iPhone upgrade really ruined my day.    (and now, we will pause while "ANONYMOUS tells me to get a real computer and proper phone ").        But, after nudging from the other person in the room,  I clicked the upgrade button and since then, nothing is the same.    My home page disappeared, I can't add bookmarks, my daily Bing photo is hidden, and on and on……..I can still get where I'm going but it's not seamless and comfortable.         I've displayed some impatience and bad words and reverted to asking for help from the resident geek.    I KNOW that
"anonymous" could help when he gets here in a few days but I'll try and avoid that encounter.

Meanwhile, a step back in time….. Jeff , circa 1980, in our computer corner….when it must have been simpler altho all I could do was email.   Those black marks on the wall are just debris from the old slide and not a statement of my housekeeping.   ( Jeff was in his Connecticut preppy stage.)

Weather is warming up and thoughts are turning to Super Bowl Sunday… Bronco Man will take his place in a few days …..  luckily, there are not so many people from the NW living here so we might get more support.   Have to think about Game Day food since we will have supporters from Colorado in attendance.

Last night, as a change of pace, we watched "Enough Said." …..  After Breaking Bad, it seemed quite bland but was cute and I thought James Gandolfino was probably just playing himself.

For any of your art wanna-bees or accomplished artists,  you might be interested in  my 2nd online course  from Val Webb.   This one is on Drawing Birds.    Her instruction is superb.   Many non-artists take her courses.   She also has  YouTube  videos.   (Search Val Webb and Mindy Lighthipe for excellent art videos).   Val's  start out very basic and you work at your own pace, in your own space and no one needs to ever share in what you are doing unless you post it to the Facebook group.

Correction:    Thanks to Rian who questioned my ability to email in the 80's….. I guess it wasn't available then !!   So now, I'm wondering just what it was that I did on that computer.

Aging gracefully, or not……..

It's pretty quiet around here.    AND COLD !   Freezing most nights and windy and chilly the rest of the time.    The sun shines but that's deceiving when you venture out.

Sometimes I forget that we live in a retirement community…..First of all, if you'd' asked me even 8 years ago if that was on our radar, I would have been indignant and said "Just  shoot me instead !"     But times and circumstances and perceptions change.    And here we are and it's a pretty nice place to spend part of the year.    We've made active, involved and vibrant friends.    We don't all look or feel our age.    We are usually nice !!

So, where am I going with this. ……?   Today, I saw the other side of the retirement community.     I went to turn in my pictures for the newspapers photo contest.     About 10 others were there, mostly women.    The coordinator explained in detail, to each of us individually, the simple paperwork involved and the instructions for submission.    This was also spelled out in the newspaper each day and I had diligently followed the directions and quickly filled out the remaining paperwork.    As I waited to have her check my folder I witnessed an episode of herding cats old people.    I was truly amazed at how rude and inconsiderate they were.   And how totally unable to follow directions and the rules.   When the lovely woman finally got around to reviewing my folder, I suggested that she be eligible for sainthood.    She just shook her head and said "Just wait until the winners are announced.   I will be getting all sorts of irate and angry calls wanting to know why they didn't win !"    I was appalled.    And, if anyone of you has to deal with miserable old goats, well, I'm sorry but we aren't all like that !!

I ended up submitting only 3 pictures as only one in each category was allowed and most of mine were plants or animals which came under the single category of Nature.    I feel the frog has the best chance altho I'm not even optimistic about that.    There are 3 large Photography Clubs here and they usually take the majority of the awards.    But, maybe the experience will make me better.     I was #417 and today is the last day to enter.

Had a wonderfully long ( over 3 hours) lunch with my artist friend Mindy.   She leads the Art and Photography tours to Costa Rica that we went on last year…..and now she and Joe have moved to TV. I am thrilled that I will have my very own art instructor near and someone to "talk art" with.    I miss having a  like minded group around.   I've gone to a few of the art clubs but nothing is what I am looking for.

We're getting excited to having Becca arrive in a week or so prior to starting her Disney internship again.    Her dad,( AKA the author of anonymous comments on the blog re: my choice of computers) will be driving with her in her cute VW Bug.      I hope the weather warms for them.

PS:    Just remembered.    We finished Breaking Bad last night.    No spoilers here, Norma, but it was time for it to be over in my opinion.    It's not an easy story line to watch but I totally get why it has won so many awards.    Quite brilliant.     Go get it on Netflix but know that 5+ years of episodes is a lot of TV watching.

Back in business……..

So, where were we when so rudely interrupted?

I think I chatted about the weather and memories of walking up hill both ways to school in waist high snow…..Florida isn't that bad but we are having a bout of the chills these days.    As long as the sun shines, it's still good outdoor weather but 70-80 is why we moved here…..
We're meeting up with a couple from Jeff's Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver.   Chan saw the logo on Jeff's shirt at the club which says Palmer Legends Country Club, The Villages and asked Jeff about it.    Being an avid golfer, they are  looking the place over and being properly overwhelmed by the size.     He said that while in the sales office, in the past 2 days, 24 homes were sold…..over 300 a month.!!    Prices have gone up of course and I hope their experience will be a good one.     We'll meet over dinner  tonight  to give them our view of living here.

We're back to playing bad golf .    And it's not going to get any better unless I spend hours working on it….. the knee hurts but I've decided that I'm not doing any damage and I'll just take drugs.   If Lindsey Vonn can ski on major knee damage, I can tough it up as well.    And I have MY Tiger at home to cheer me up ! (Mine  doesn't have a private jet even tho he could fly one ! )

I've decided to enter The Villages Photography contest.    I have a couple of pictures that I think are pretty good and each year I say I'm going to do this but never do.    I"m not holding my breath or anything but just curious how I'll stack up against the others.     Stay tuned.       Speaking of cameras….I'm sending my Tamron lens  in for cleaning.    It spent a bit of time in those dusty windy sandy Moab days and I can feel the grit on it.    I do have a 60 mm to use in the meantime.

While we were in ABQ for the Balloon Fiesta, the newspapers and TV news were all about an obit in the paper for Walter White, the lead character in Breaking Bad. (It takes place in Albuquerque)    People that hadn't finished the series were quite upset about this "spoiler'.      P started watching it on Netflix…..I wasn't so interested but being within earshot of the TV , I gradually got drawn into the violent, convoluted and absurdity of the plot….and it was  even funny at times.      There are 63 episodes of 47 min each so when you have nothing else to do, sit yourself down and get immersed.    Even the President admits to it being a favorite.    We only watch one episode a night due to the violence and retribution that never seems to end.

The house is making progress.    We've been in communication with the neighbors and they said the weather is in the 40's and the snow is melting .   Altho there are some low hills and an occasional mountain in that western view, the best sighting of the San Juans  is to the left (south) and we will enjoy it from the patio.     Assuming that shadow is the outhouse but we will have indoor plumbing.

AND, if you are a devotee of this blog…it is currently a requirement that you vocally and physically (i.e.: yelling and jumping about ) support  the Broncos  on Sunday.      The Bronco blow-up guy
will be prominently displayed out front (as he is on all game days) and the Tee shirts will be worn and Coors Light ( made from pure Rocky Mountain water ) will be imbibed.      No excuses !!

OOPS

Somehow, Blogger has gone a bit crazy.....one blog deleted and a notice from last July saying I am taking a hiatus.    Ignore all of it and I'll try and get it back on track.

A new year....

A new you ??   Well, that ain't happening around here anytime soon....same old me, same old him and we are really good with that.      I've read a few blogs where the author is breathing a sigh of relief that 2013 is behind them as it was a crummy year.....  not so much at this house.    It was a very good year and each one we pass thru is a blessing.    We look forward to new and exciting happenings.    Change is good, if the change is good and for us, as we explore this time of aging, we look forward to good changes once again.

The year started as it has for 71 years with a birthday happening on January 1st.    I have trouble remembering birthdays and have to resort to a cheat sheet. But friends  far and wide remember his and the phone rang and the emails were many.   The weather was gloomy and rainy but the Birthday Fairy made her way to the house and dropped off some mighty fine gifts.

The GoPro won't go on the helmet to record a ski run or a surfing event but might just capture the thrill of jeeping in the Colorado mountains.     Or maybe he'll take up diving and find the colorful fishes.

Also, a Dell Venue tablet arrived....since he's a Windows fan, this will coordinate nicely with his computer and he can playback the GoPro videos.

Now and then, I'll post a few pics taken by the professionals at the wedding.    This was right before Jon escorted us down the aisle.

Today is more fog this morning and heavy rain later but we are welcoming a couple from Colorado who are wandering the south in their motorhome.    Paul met her playing Pickleball in Parker, Co and we will show them  the uniqueness of The Villages and hopefully, the rain will hold off until after a game or two.

Home in Style...........

It was a wonderful month, filled with an abundance of family and celebrations.   But all good things must recede into our memories and we need to float down to reality  and get on with the  everyday life of the happily retired.

So we are home once again........   The journey was filled with pride as I was finally able to fly on the same plane as our son.    Paul has flown with Jon before but not I.     Jon is a First Officer with United (previously Continental before the merger).   Since he was very young, he has wanted to fly.    When he turned 16, he went out to the local small airport to see if he could volunteer to wash airplanes and was immediately offered a job !!   He was ecstatic and his career in aviation began.   From there, he went  on to get a degree and then worked his way up the ladder of aviation.   Despite seeing his father having to weather the Eastern demise, he was not discouraged from seeking a career in this changing industry.      This is a difficult time to try and go stand-by on crowded holiday flights but we took the plunge and with the help of our upgraded status ( traveling with a crew member) we were able to get the last two seats from Newark to Orlando.    He warned me that it would be a bumpy ride ( during which I turn in to a huddling mess of anxiety) but it was not of the scary kind.    And knowing that he was avoiding the "potholes" just for his mother, helped a lot.    Jon is on the right and his landing was smooth and skilled....just like his father's always were.     We wore our pride in our smiles.

We will miss those two active boys .....  Mason spent the day working on his Lego creation (from a kit) and it was quite masterful.    The lion head with the huge teeth raises and lowers and there are assorted projectile firing mechanisms that periodically take aim at a cat or two.

We have NO plans to pack a bag anytime soon but that doesn't mean that there aren't exciting plans being made....... Stay tuned.
And a very Happy and Healthy New Year to you all !!

Celebrations

As we travel around the globe these days,  we join family in celebrating major events and happy gatherings.    Unfortunately, the resident photographer managed to delete all the graduation pictures except these two.
Becca received her Marketing Degree from Colorado State and Kelsey received her Degree the evening before .    The next day, Mike and Jenna held an open house with amazing food and friends and CAKE.

Then, leaving beautiful Colorado behind, we headed east to Connecticut to share in the excitement of two delightful boys.    Andy and Mason were all ready to open their Christmas pajamas and begin the wait for Santa.    Two Grandma's and one Granddad were thrilled to be a part of it all.

The morning brought laughter and glee and exclamations as Santa showered the family with generosity......and more good food !       We ate and played and read new books and napped and some of us even went for a 7 mile walk in the chilly grey day.    My excuse was an annoying knee once again.   Santa didn't bring a fix for that !    And then, another table filled with prime rib, sea bass and assorted family recipes.

Today, I came down in the early dawn to find the two deep in concentration on their new iPads.   They are to be used for reading and school work ..... but games will always be their preferred choice.

We wish you all a joyous New Year and we'll see you when we get back to palm trees and flowers.

The best of times........

I have only a few pictures, very casual shots, to share.    In a wise move, the personable minister spoke up at the beginning of the ceremony and said that only the professional photographers would be allowed to use their cameras and they were to remain at the back on the church.     At the end, she encouraged everyone to get out their phones , ipads and cameras and take pics.    These are with my phone.    There were 6 attendants and the dresses were perfect.   And the bride looked radiant in her beautiful billowing gown.

The reception was a very joyous celebration......

 Here's my favorite college freshman......
Do you think the parents and grandparents had enough glassware on the table ?.

Even cowboys need to rest their feet.

Mama was filled with pride and emotion.....

Becca and her special beau Kory...... he's a very tall 1st grade teacher....and a delightful young man and we approve wholeheartedly  !!

We have a few more days at home and then we head WEST AGAIN !!  (We really need to move out there and save on airfare !! )   This time, it's to honor Becca and attend her college graduation from Colorado State.    She will return to Disney in February as an intern....a repeat of last year as a Fairy Godmother.   We are thrilled that she will be nearby once again.
On the 23rd we will head to Connecticut for Christmas with Andy and Mason.    They are getting a beautiful snowfall so we will hope for a white Christmas.

Memories are made of this..........

Because this blog is all about ME, this is the only picture I am posting today.     Yes, we were gone for almost 2 weeks and this is all that I have for the moment.     I made a big mistake when I packed.   I did not take my computer and I did not take my big Canon.    I decided to go light and took my small point and shoot Canon and my mini iPad.   Neither of which were worth a hoot for capturing the wonderful moments we had.

We left on the 26th of November.   On the 27th was a perfect rehearsal dinner at a lovely Bistro that Mike and Jenna frequent and the french owner made it all very special and delicious.    On Thanksgiving, we were part of a large gathering at "the hostess with the mostest" home of Caroline and Doug.   They manage to make it look so easy in their lovely home.    And it was fun to watch the balloon team from the Fiesta cook 2 turkeys with all the trimmings and drink.    Remind me to share a Sangria made with fresh apple cider, gingerale, brandy and fruit.
On Friday, we attended the wedding of Kelsey and Nicholas in the beautiful 125 yr old First Methodist Church in Denver.    The service was personal and beautiful.    Then we trekked across the street to the historic Brown Palace.  The pictures will not do it justice....the reception was everything you would want.   The bride radiant, the groom beaming  and the parents proud and happy that it all went off so smoothly.    We danced and ate and mingled and had really good champagne and were among the last to leave the party.    See, we're really not as old as we look !!

The next day, after walking to breakfast a few blocks away on a bright and sunny and warm morning, we all went our separate ways.     Since it was OUR day, we decided to enjoy the quiet and reflect on our 50 years of marriage and 55 years of being a couple.     There is no way to remember it all except that it has been just about perfect (well, most of the time) and we have been so fortunate, so very lucky and so blessed.    We could not ask for a better family.     ....................OK, now I need some tissues..........
Anyway, we walked the Denver streets, marveled at the excellent art museum, learned something about our favorite area at the History museum and finished the day with dinner at the Brown Palace.

The next morning we headed WEST.....we had plans to come home but we do love the mountains so we went exploring.     And then it snowed, dry powdery deep fluff that made the ski resorts rejoice and put us in awe of Mother Nature's beauty.    But it was also very cold !!   Near zero and altho I had my new coat to keep me warm (read earlier post)  , I had to buy boots.
And so, this story will continue, with pictures of the wedding and the mountains......We have the pictures in P's computer but having issues with transferring to mine......
